Ice Cube-Produced Biopic of N.W.A, “Straight Outta Compton” Gets New Writer

John Herman, writer of Conviction and Rites of Men has been hired to pen a new draft for the biopic of legendary rap group N.W.A’s biopic, Straight Outta Compton.

The motion picture studio is in the process of picking up the title in turnaround from New Line Cinema, this according to HollywoodReporter. Ice Cube’s dream project is slated to chronicle the beginnings of the pioneering rap group and their climb to fame.

The group’s founding members were Arabian Prince, DJ Yella, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, and Ice Cube, who is co-producing the film with his Cube Vision partner Matt Alvarez. Also assisting in production are Eazy-E’s widow, Tomica Woods, and Dr. Dre under his Crucial Films banner. Will Packer is executive producing.

Members down the line decamped and launched successful solo careers. Due to royalty disputes, Ice Cube departed from the group circa December of 1989 and Eazy-E died in 1995 due to AIDS-related causes.
